In cases where the mother or father is missing or deceased, a missing parent DNA test helps to  determin paternity or maternity by using the DNA from the maternal or paternal grandparents.  A genetic reconstruction, is then done by administering a series of DNA tests which focus on the missing parent’s biological parents.  The results of a legal genetic reconstruction test may be used as proof for Social Security benefits and/or other inheritance claims. A missing parent genetic reconstruction DNA test requires complex analytical testing and the other non-missing parent’s DNA sample is highly desired (This test requires at minimum a DNA sample from both parents of the missing alleged mother or father).

This is an example which will help you understand how this DNA test works:

A mother has a child and wishes to know if a man (the alleged father) is the biological father of the child. But, this alleged father is missing, unavailable, or deceased. If the alleged father’s biological parents (i.e., the child's alleged paternal grandparents) are available, however, a profile can be derived from their DNA patterns that can then be used to test paternity of the missing alleged father. In this case, the ideal situation is to submit DNA samples from the mother, child, and both alleged paternal grandparents. It is also possible to conduct this testing with only the child and both alleged paternal grandparents (mother excluded), but this should only be done when the mother is not available.

The DNA Collection Process Is Very Easy:

Our simple do-it-yourself at home maternity test collects DNA samples by simply swabbing the inside of the cheeks with a special swab (like a large Q-Tip). This is easy, quick, and painless.
