What Is A Y-STR DNA Test?

The Y-STR male lineage test is used to determine whether two or more males are related through their paternal lineage. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son and has a relatively infrequent mutation rate, thus it remains the same through many generations.

This test focuses on the Y chromosome and results in a unique Y-STR profile for each male tested. It is important to note that this test will not differentiate men that are in the same paternal lineage.

The Y-STR test may be a useful tool in some paternity situations where the alleged father is missing, Although a Y-STR analysis cannot distinguish specific relationships between males who belong to the same paternal line, it can determine if two male do in-fact come from the same male line.  For example, if a male child and his alleged uncle (which is the alleged father’s full brother) are tested, their Y-STR profiles must match if the alleged father is truly the biological father. If the Y-STR does not match and the alleged uncle is not considered a biological uncle, then one can conclude that the alleged father is probably not the biological father.

The DNA Collection Process Is Very Easy:

Our simple do-it-yourself at home Y-STR lineage DNA test collects DNA samples by simply swabbing the inside of the cheeks with a special swab (like a large Q-Tip). This is easy, quick, and painless.
